Could your allotment be a winner? We have joined forces with Garden News to find Britain's top Allotment. This is the fourth year of this competition. The first category is as before, to find the very best Allotment in the country. This competition is open to individual allotmenteers to enter their own allotment plot to find the very best plot in Britain. This competition is not open to Societies or Allotment Associations, it is for individuals only who must put themselves forward.
The second category is to find the Best Newcomer, and by newcomer, we mean someone who will have had their allotment for under 3 years on 30th June 2008.
Entrants will be asked to fill in an entry form self marking their site. Judges will be looking at the areas of cultivation and cropping, husbandry and environmental awareness. You will be asked to send in photos of your plot taken within the last 12 months. From this information, a shortlist of finalists will be drawn up, and all of these will receive a certificate. The winners will be announced during National Allotments Week which will be 11th to 17th August this year.
The finalists will be judged during July and visited by our team of judges. The winner will receive a framed copy of Garden News with their photo on the front cover.
We are pleased to announce that Mantis UK are sponsoring the main prize of this years competition, a Mantis Cultivator. Caliterra wines will supply wine for the winner to enjoy. Kings seeds have also given generous gift vouchers for each category, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. Other prizes are being sourced.
