Winners of all the competitions have now been announced, and we recommend that you contact the nearest one to you as they are all inspirational. The winner of the Best Allotment Site and also the Best Project category, Hexthorpe Crimpsall, in Doncaster was a truly amazing site to visit. The committee and members all work together despite having been flooded in the summer of 2007.
In 2007 they found themselves up a creek without a paddle, but refused to give up, not only drying themselves off and starting all over again, they have improved and built up on a marvellous project working with local schools, growing food and involving the children all the way.
Second place in the Best Site competition went to Longbarrow, in Dorset for the second year running. They are always willing to welcome visitors and pass on hints and tips.
Second place in the Project went to Boundary Way, Wolverhampton where they have built an outdoor classroom, sensory garden, raised beds for the disabled, a wildlife pond and a bee-keeping section just for starters. . . We wish them all the best!
The winner in the Shed category was more like a chalet where you would be pleased to spend a weekend break anytime.
The second prize winner in this category, was a most wonderful Log cabin, lovingly built on a prizeworthy allotment.
